Dekalb Market Hall

Brand Identity

With more than 40 vendors, Dekalb Market Hall reflects the cultural and ethnic diversity of the borough we call home: Brooklyn.

As one of the largest food and entertainment centers in New York City, there are many facets to the DMH Brand. And Rescue Vessel was involved right at the start. We were tasked with building the brand from the ground (in this case, basement) up.

Personality and community were immediately identified as crucial parts of the story, a marriage of New York City’s long history of culinary authenticity and its contemporary standing as a trendsetter. Starting with a deep dive into the food culture of the five boroughs, we put together imagery and messaging that pays sincere homage to what has always made NYC cool: celebrating the brilliant diversity of people who call it home.

Let there be light

Seeing designs come to life in three dimensions is always fun. Designing two massive neon signs with our friends at Lite Brite Neon was a dream come true. The signs became a beacon for the hall, which is itself a sea of neon.

With all of the new development taking place in Downtown Brooklyn, maintaining a connection to the area's past was a top priority. Every last detail (down to the bolts used to construct the sign) was true to the time period that inspired the design.
